The wise grandmother in many ancient traditions, the moon casts her soft light on the lush forest floor, illuminating slow growth and quiet decay. Serene and still, these shed antlers, unfurling ferns, emergent mushrooms and flourishing moss speak of the peaceful cycles of life and death here in the rainforest, nourished by the rains that feed this delicate ecosystem.

The Spirit of Grandmother Moon is ancient. An incredible woman: brilliant, kind, strong and beautiful. She is elegant and creative, often adorned in gorgeous, lace-trimmed treasures of her own creation. At once a social creature and an introvert, she oscillates between dance parties, gatherings with dear friends and retreats at home in quiet of the forest. She finds solace in her creativity and playing in the depths of her imagination. She is inspired by the resplendent geometries and fractal elements of nature, inherent in moss, trees, the honeycomb, the nautilus... She is a published author and a doctor (PhD), achievements that speak both to her passion for life and the depth of her shining brilliance. You can just see it in her eyes...

My deep love for evergreen trees inspired this portrait of the "Mother of Evergreens", titled in reference to the fact that a single pinecone holds the potential to seed an entire forest. As 'seeds of life,' pinecones represent potent metaphors for the power of individuals to create change on a large scale.
Conifer Pine Trees are one of the most ancient plant genera on the planet, having existed nearly three times longer than all flowering plant species. The Pinecone is the evolutionary precursor to the flower, and its spines spiral in a perfect Fibonacci sequence, much like the 'Sacred Geometry' of a rose or a sunflower.
Throughout human history, Pinecones have served as a symbolic representation of Human Enlightenment, the Third Eye and the Pineal Gland. The Pineal Gland, shaped like (and named after) the Pinecone, is at the geometric centre of the human brain and is intimately linked to our body's perception of light. It is considered by many ancient cultures to be our biological Third Eye, the "Seat of the Soul," the “Epicenter of Enlightenment.”

Painted in honour of the cycles of the moon, the tides, and the diurnal rhythm of life. I started this as a live painting at a gathering in Victoria, BC, which was held on a full moon, and I finished it on the following full moon.

He is man of the mountains, rivers and forests of British Columbia. He's most at home when fly fishing in a pristine river, and evening sunsets and campfire circles bring him joy and the day's full vigour. He has a deep connection with the feathered ones, especially the hawk and raven. His totems, the cougar and the hawk, speak to his fondness for quietude, loyalty to his tribe and business sense - he is a keen 'hunter', a sensitive soul and a dear friend. This mountain man thinks deeply about life, philosophy and what lies beyond...
