"Singing Pass"
"Singing Pass"

Autumn and late spring in Singing Pass (between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains), reward us with an incredible palette of contrasting colours. This piece aims to capture the vivid hues and majesty of this expansive valley, with the Overlord Glacier in the distance. Rich undertones and sweeping arcs reflect its raw, almost surreal beauty and the flow of winds that flow through its many peaks.

Indeed, this land sings, serenading its visitors with wild allure.

24"x24". Acrylic on canvas. $2400.

Mount Currie
Mount Currie

An iconic landmark in this part of beautiful British Columbia, the formidable Mount Currie watches over the farming village of Pemberton, just north of Whistler. I painted this from a photo I took while enjoying a post-ride beer at a local brewery. As we sat and watched the late day sun sun, the sky became a rainbow of colour and the peaks reflected the gold of the sun. It was late spring and the snowcaps were melting quickly, feeding the cascading waterfalls and abundant valley rivers that nourished the farmland upon which we sat. As we enjoyed our drinks, I wondered if the beer I was drinking was brewed from those very waters…Refreshing indeed!

"Callaghan Magic"
"Callaghan Magic"

Inspired by the tremendous beauty of the Sea-to-Sky's deep, serene valleys, I painted this scene from a photo I took while cross-country skiing in the Callaghan Valley, just south of Whistler. In the far reaches of this valley, where few people venture, the only sounds are from my skis on the snow and the pristine waters that run year-round beneath pillows of untouched powder. Heaven on Earth.

"Paradise Found"
"Paradise Found"

The original version of this piece was painted on wood in many translucent layers to give it tremendous depth, and so that light would play off it as it plays off of mist from a waterfall. I love circles and their profound symbolism: the circle represents wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, the sacred, eternity, timelessness and God, whatever that means to a person. Hermes said that "God is a circle whose centre is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere." In Chinese macrocosmic symbology, the circle expresses the shape of Heaven, perfection and eternity.

The waterfall reflects the peace and serenity of that perfect place that Earth holds for each of us somewhere; somewhere we feel safe, warm and held, as though we are back in the womb. A timeless, meditative space where this is no stress, no deadlines, no phones, no distractions...the ego is quiet and the mind still. The body, relaxed and at ease, bathes in the soothing sounds of flowing water, freshly-scented air and the comfort of purity and truth. There is nothing else in these moments.

My hope is that viewers feel a sense of deep tranquility when looking at this piece, which is inspired by the incredible waterfalls in BC, Hawaii and in the secret hideaways we can always access in the depths of our selves.

"Garibaldi Daybreak"
"Garibaldi Daybreak"

Emerging from a tent in the early morning to the waning stars in the sky and the sun just beginning to stream over the mountains is perhaps one of the most fulfilling camping experiences I can imagine. I love watching the soft golden rays slowly fill the dark, dewy shadows with warmth and light, while the birds sing and a new day unfolds, full of possibilty.

"Wild Coast"
"Wild Coast"

The Napali Coast, on the North Shore of Kauai. Near vertical green cliffs plummet thousands of feet into crystal clear blue waters below. White sand beaches, cascading waterfalls, resplendent fruit trees, sea caves and ancient Hawaiian sacred sites reward hikers intrepid enough to brave the narrow 11-mile trail along precipitous ledges to the obscenely picturesque Kalalau valley...one of my favourite places on the planet.
